September 22, 2014

If box #8 was a disappointment, then Memebox #9 was redemption because the contents were AWESOME.

Memebox #9 consisted of 4 full-sized products and 3 deluxe samples. The variety in this box was great; there were products for hair, body, skin and makeup.

Kerasys Oriental Premium Shampoo (200g)
Full Size: $90 for 600g- Sample Value: $30.00

I wasn’t tooooo excited to get another shampoo in this box, but I’d recently tossed the Vedacell into my swim bag so I needed something else to use at home. I actually took the effort to finish using this whole thing before making any conclusions. Overall, I’d give the Kerasys Oriental Premium Shampoo an “just okay.” It has a nice floral scent that’s not too sickly sweet or perfume-y. It lathers up nicely (I knowwww it’s bad for my hair shh) and doesn’t leave it feeling too dry or stripped of oils. The tube I was sent featured a really neat nozzle that would close in on itself to prevent and leakage/kept the product from oozing all over the bottle. You have to put some force into squeezing the bottle to overcome the seal which means that sometimes it dispensed too much product, but I really thought the tech was cool. IDK shampoo is just shampoo to me and my feelings about it are noncommittal. The volume of hair products in general just make it difficult to try a lot of things, which brings me to mention how impressed I am with the size of this sample. I thought this was a full-sized product! It’s very generously sized and I got a ton of use out of it.

I might actually try to locate this in stores to see if the prices are different in a brick-and-mortar setting because $90 MUST be some sort of inflated MSRP. You can even get the Kerasys Oriental Premium Shampoo or Conditioner for approx $20-40 on eBay.

LUNA Wonder Essential BB Foundation – #21 Nudy Beige (15ml)
Full Size: 40ml for $35 – Sample Value: $13.13

I saw sneak peeks of the LUNA foundation in other boxes and loved the sleek design (NARS?) so I was psyched when I got this in my box. (Although, again, I can imagine that customers with darker skintones were not pleased to get another foundation). After the disappointment of the Tonymoly BCDATION in the last box, the LUNA foundation was refreshingly light and comfortable.

(Full face shot below in the Ellegirl Tint section)

It’s a nice liquid foundation with light to medium coverage and a lovely soft-glowing finish. I got shade #21 Nudy Beige, but there is also shade #23 Natural Beige which I think may have more of a pink undertone. The foundation is light enough to apply with my fingers and doesn’t cling to any dry patches or sink into any fine lines. It doesn’t have nearly enough coverage for dark circles or spots, but it’s a good all over base.

I’m disappointed that I can’t find more information about this product or about the LUNA brand because I really like this and would consider purchasing the full sized version. Luckily, the full-sized version of the LUNA Wonder Essential BB Foundation is available on eBay and on GMarket. Both listings work out to approx $40-$50 and come with a makeup fixer mist as a gift with purchase.

Jaminkyung Gokmul Care Creamy Cleansing Masque (100ml)
Full Size: $45 for 100ml

The Jaminkyung Gokmul Care Creamy Cleansing Masque is a really cool 3-in-1 product – it’s a mask, exfoliant and cleanser all at the same time. I tried it cleanser both as a means to removing base makeup and as a post-remover cleanse and found that it did a great job either way. It’s a foam cleanser so it gave me a squeaky clean (lit. imagine that clean teeth from the dentist feeling, but on your face) that was a little off-putting, but I correct it with some face spray quick enough that I can live with it. It also does pretty well as an exfoliant; The Gokmul Care masque is made of rice primarily so the grains offer a soft and non-abrasive scrub. It has the consistency of a paste almost, but you can definitely feel some soft scrubbing grains. I personally prefer something stronger, but it’s not bad. It’s weakest as a mask since the instructions only suggest that you leave it on for a minute before you rinse it off. The effect feels the same as having used it as a cleanser to be honest.

My favorite part of this product is the smell because it’s made of rice and therefore smells DELICIOUS. It’s kind of like a fresh pot of congee or the scorched rice you get at the bottom of a bowl of dolsot bibimbap. It’s unconventional so I don’t think it’s for everyone, but I found it to be cozy and homey. I only use a small quantity at a time and it’s a very generously sized product so I’m glad that I’ll get to use it for a while.

You can get the Jaminkyung Gokmul Care Creamy Cleansing Masque on eBay for $29.99.

25cc Hairbooster (25ml)
Full Size: $23 for 25ml

Packaging? CHECK. I love that this is a “booster” product and it’s delivered in a syringe; clever! (I’ve seen the same packaging used for ANOTHER Memebox product so I might deduct some points). I was surprised to get two hair products in one box, but liked the opportunity to see if these two worked well together as Memebox might suggest. The 25cc Hairbooster promises smooth soft locks after a quick mask session. It has the consistency of a thick conditioner and needs to be rinsed out after application. The best parallel I can draw is that it’s similar to a hair mask in both texture and usage. The Hairbooster has a floral scent, but it wasn’t overwhelming. As a full-sized product, I found it to be kind of small, but that might be because of how much hair I have. I managed to get 2.5 uses out of it and of those times, I found that it left my hair soft, but not extraordinarily so. While I liked it, I didn’t think it was extraordinary :T

If you want to try it, there’s one listing on eBay for the 25cc Hairbooster for $15.

Savia Magic Count Down 7-Days EGF & Multi-Peptide (5ml)
Full Size: $30 for 5ml

This was a really interesting product to get because 1) I don’t really know what any of it IS and 2) because the packaging involved putting stuff together which I love. After removing the plastic cap and peeling back the metal seal, you’re supposed to attach the rubber dropper to the top of the bottle which allows you to dispense measured drops of product each time you use it. Probably fussy for some people, but I found it to be pretty neat/fun. The product itself is … ??? I feel almost as if “Savia Magic Count Down 7-Days EGF & Multi-Peptide” is missing a word at the end. The takeaway is that this is a 7-day supply of a peptide that is supposed to help skin regeneration since ‘EGF’ stands for epidermal growth factor – a naturally occurring substance that stimulates skin cell growth. Ah yes more “Science does The Skin Thing.” But I might have to bite my tongue, because I think this might’ve done some .. things.

At first I was pretty good about using it every day, but after about 2 weeks I realized that I wasn’t going to finish this any time soon. I definitely had more than enough product for 7 days (maybe the name means !magic! in 7-days and not that there’s only enough for 7 days?) During the first few weeks, I was underwhelmed because I didn’t seem to notice any change, but when I stopped using it regularly, I noticed that my skin was kind of meh. When I started using it again, it looked great… However, I’ll admit that I’m sometimes of the placebo camp so I wouldn’t be surprised if I was mentally wooed by all the science.

I’ve finished using the Savia EGF, but I don’t think the effects were enough to support a decision to repurchase. I’m also unsure about how I feel that this is a full-sized product. It comes out to roughly $177 an oz, which is on the higher end for a serum-type product. It’s a lot, but I could see someone pay for the quantity – having to shell out $30ml for a bottle the length of my pinky finger hurts though. Fortunately (or unfortunately), I can’t locate this item for purchase anywhere online :(

Ellegirl I Say Tint, You Say Gloss – Hardcore Red (5ml)
Full Size: 5ml for $23

My favorite product in this box!!! I’ve always liked that Memebox is skincare-centric because skincare can be so expensive, but because it always takes such a long time to test each product, I’m PUMPED whenever I get a makeup item that I can use immediately. The Ellegirl I Say Tint, You Say Gloss comes in 5 shades, but Memebox featured the 3 redish shades: Rock Berry, Vocal Red, and Hardcore Red. I got the darkest of the shade selection which is #5 Hardcore Red.

The Ellegirl I Say Tint, You Say Gloss is true to its name – it’s not exactly a gloss, but also not really a tint in it’s own right. It looks dark in the tube, but it’s very light on the lips and you can build the color up to as dark as you like. The finish is slightly glossy, but without any of the stickiness you might attribute to a lip gloss. The staining effect is subtle and the color doesn’t cling to any dry patches. Those of you who’ve tried lip lacquers and weren’t keen on how it felt on the lips might love this. It has a vanilla cream scent, which is noooot something I enjoy, but fortunately it fades away pretty quickly.

IMG_1965

Here’s how it looks against the rest of my face (TRAGIC HAIR TRAGIC BROWS). If I build the product up to 3 or 4 layers, it’s a deep red with a slight brown undertone. It’s a perfect shade for Autumn. I’m also wearing the Luna foundation!

Sadly, I can’t find Shade #5 anywhere for purchase online, but you can get the Ellegirl I Say Tint, You Say Gloss on Gmarket in Shades 1-4 and there are a few listings on ebay for Shade #4 Vocal Red.

Botanic Hill Boh Moist & Radiant Youth Ampoule Essence (4ml / 5ml)
Full Size: $40 for 50ml – Sample Value: $4.00*

How cute are these little samples *^* The Botanic Hill Boh Moist & Radiant Youth Ampoule Essence is an anti-aging product that combines and ampoule, essence, and oil. Unfortunately, that’s all the description for the duo offers; it describes the usage & effect as if both products are one and the same. So on that assumption, I ended up always using them together – layering the moist essence first and then the radiant essence based on viscosity.

IMG_2888

The Moist Youth Essence is bi-layer product – there is a translucent layer of oil on top of what I’m guessing is an essence or ampoule based on how liquidy it is – so you have to shake it up before you dispense it. It’s a lightweight & water product so it sinks into the skin pretty fast. There’s a tiny bit of glow from the facial oil, but it’s not sticky or heavy at all. Afterwards, I follow up with the Radian Youth Essence which is eeever so slightly gel-like and has small white beads that burst when you massage the product into your skin. Both of them leave my skin feeling comfortable and soft – I think my face might even look a bit brighter from usage. Interestinggggg.

Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a single listing for this item anywhere on English-speaking sites :T

Total MSRP Value: $168.13
Price Paid: $29.99

Awesome AWESOME box. I loved everything that was in it and I had a great time trying everything out. Box #8 seriously bummed me out and I wasn’t looking forward to #9 as much, but the contents were surprisingly relevant to me and worked great. My minimum requirement/expectation is to find at least one thing I would repurchase after taking the price into consideration and I found 3/7 in this box so that’s just great!

Unfortunately, box #9 with this exact set of product is long sold out, but I’ve done my best to link some places where you can get each item if any of they interest you. If you’d like to try Memebox out, you can grab a Global Box #18 [Affiliate Link], which ships December 24th. Aww yeaa this box looks pretty good. I really like the way that lip color looms on you! The kerasys is disappointing bc I’ve found it for like under $20. I think the star of this box looks like the rice scrub :3

Aw thanks! I’m only excited about the cooler weather because it becomes more appropriate for me to wear dark red power lipsticks awyeahh.
Yeah! I know I’ve seen the Kerasys for cheaper so it’s kind of lame that they would mark it up so much to increase it’s value in the box.

I bought this one when they had that promotion for a discount if you bought three! The only thing I’ve played with so far is the liptintglossthing though haha. I got it in Vocal Red and it’s a nice enough color, but not very unique to my stash and I like the one you got way better (or maybe that’s just because it looks so good on you ❤_____❤)

What other boxes did you get during the promotion? Aw ty T_T ❤ I wish you got a diff shade so you could play with something different – IDK if it’s worth the effort, but maybe there are some swaps out there for shade #5? Let me know how you feel when you use the other stuff in the box!!
